Yes, That's Data! Demystifying and Finding Data in the Humanities

The word data often makes us think of statistics and numbers. However, data as a concept incorporates a multitude of various forms. Disciplines in the Humanities frequently rely on unstructured or mined data such as text, images, audio, and video. This workshop will introduce participants to the various unconventional forms that data can take and how to follow best practices for their use. We will also discuss specific issues related to organizing information in the humanities such as metadata that capture time spans or periods, developing analytical models for mined data, and some tips on how to find existing humanities datasets.
