Learn to Spin! Drop-in and try out a 3D printed spindle

Join us as we combine 3D printing technology and the ancient textile art of spindle spinning to make yarn. We will have some wool fibre and 3D printed cross-arm spindles on hand for you to try.

Why not print your own spindle and bring it along to the drop-in session? The McGill Library has four 3D printers available to current students, staff, and faculty, and help is available. Visit the Information Commons during service hours for a 15 minute training session. After the training, you will have the go ahead to 3D print your own drop spindle from a digital file. Don't forget to book one of the printers to make the spindle! The print time for the spindle is approximately 4 hours.

You will walk away from this experience with a new appreciation for 3D printing and a portable, mindful practice in spindle spinning.

Innovation Commons Room A is located in the Redpath Library Building on the main floor (next to the spiral staircase). Drop in anytime during the workshop period. Contact April Colosimo with questions (april.colosimo [at] (subject: Learn%20to%20spin) ).
